Transported chilled Semen for Artificial Insemination
Woolaston Stud will now be offering an AI service to mare
owners using chilled semen from some of our stallions. Close cooperation between the mare owner, their veterinary
surgeon and Woolaston Stud is essential.
The semen will be collected from the stallion when required,
chilled and immediately transported, at the mare owners cost, in a special Equitainer bucket to the veterinary surgeon for insemination
of the mare. This must take place within 70 hours of collection from the stallion and should coincide with ovulation of the mare. The
optimum period for insemination of chilled semen is from 12 hours before, to 3 - 4 hours after ovulation.
Five days notice and subsequently 48 hours notice is
required to ensure that delivery of chilled semen coincides with your mare's optimum insemination period.
The stud fee is payable before semen can be colected, plus a
deposit of £150 is payable at time of booking from which the Equitainer Hire, veterinary fees and transport of semen will
be deducted. £100 is payable for each breeding cycle.
If a mare artificially inseminated by chilled semen is
certified not in foal by 1st October, the stud fee less 25% will be returned.
